the originally declared intention of the United States Govern- ment it did not occur to us that at washington any difficulty could arise over this. in view however of the communication recently made to the Netherland Govemment by the State Department we have now infomed the Dutch Minister here that we cannot pledge the united States Govemment in any way but that we are prepared to use our good offices with them to induce theo to give similar guarantee, we however have also intimated that we anticipate that Government of the United States will make it a condition that the claim to the 13 snips already requisitioned will be dropped. The question is so important that we trust earnestly the United States will support us on insisting on this condition if and when approached by the Netherland Govemment. from the Netherland Minister
We gather that tuis condition is not likely to meet with seriour opposition.
